Every piece of jewellery tells a story and with the right care, it can be worn and enjoyed for generations to come. Whether you have chosen an original antique ring or a handmade modern design, a little extra care will help preserve the beauty and craftsmanship of your jewellery.
Everyday Jewellery Care
To keep your jewellery looking its best, we recommend following a few simple guidelines:
- Remove jewellery before swimming, showering or entering water.
- Apply perfumes, lotions and beauty products before putting jewellery on.
- Remove rings and bracelets before sleeping.
- Avoid wearing jewellery during strenuous activity such as exercising, gardening or housework.
Even diamonds and precious metals can become damaged over time through everyday wear. Jewellery is designed to be worn and loved, but no piece is completely indestructible. Taking a little extra care can help prevent unnecessary wear and prolong the life of your jewellery.

Caring for Antique Jewellery
Original antique rings were created in a different era, when jewellery was worn more gently than it is today. While these pieces have already stood the test of time beautifully, they do require a little more consideration in modern day life.
We recommend checking your jewellery regularly, particularly the claws and stone settings, to ensure everything remains secure. Over time, everyday wear may naturally loosen settings or cause general wear and tear.
Occasionally, your ring may benefit from professional servicing or maintenance to keep it in the best possible condition.
Cleaning Your Jewellery
Keeping your jewellery clean is often much simpler than people expect.
For most diamond jewellery, we recommend using:
- a soft bristled toothbrush
- warm water
- a gentle washing up liquid
Gently clean both the front and underneath of the setting, where oils and debris can naturally build up over time. Rinse thoroughly and dry carefully afterwards.
Diamonds are naturally oleophilic, meaning they attract grease and oils easily, so regular cleaning helps maintain their brilliance and fire.
Pearls, Opals & Coloured Gemstones
Some gemstones require more delicate care and should not be cleaned in the same way as diamonds. We do not recommend this cleaning method for pearls, opals or certain coloured gemstones. If you are unsure how to care for a particular piece, please contact us and we will be happy to advise.
